Company Equity, Diversity and Inclusion

Equity, Diversity and Inclusion of all people is important to Knappett.

Knappett supports employment of people of all diversities, including women, youth, Indigenous, Metis, immigrants and persons with barriers to the construction industry.  This is evidenced by both our field staff and office personnel and reflects the communities we work in.

We actively hire people from agencies that support people with financial and social barriers.  When given the chance to learn, receive mentorship and training we are proving opportunity to help them to be confident, goal-seeking and accountable people.  

It is important to Knappett that we support the communities that our Families work and live in. Healthy communities mean flourishing Families and outstanding workers.

Innovative Programs that support Sustainability onsite

Previously, there was no sustainability certification tailored to the day-to-day operations of tradespeople or onsite construction services. We committed to provide collaborative sponsorship to BC Green Business that will help take the next step: piloting, launching, and scaling the Green Trades certification across BC. We piloted the checklist with other subtrade companies. Knappett has also volunteered to have our current best practices and to receive insights for obtainable improvements to better our onsite efforts to be Environmentally, Socially and Sustainable builders. Our support was the catalyst that brought the Green Trades & Contractors Program to life.

Green Builder Certification: Our team achieved this certification in 2025, demonstrating our commitment to industry-best sustainability practices. A “green builder” is a construction professional or company that specializes in building using environmentally responsible and resource-efficient practices. Issued by : U.S. Green Building Council and through training provided by  Canada Green Building Council 

Social Procurement

Knappett is dedicated to fostering social procurement in a way that prioritizes the local economy. For us, supporting the local economy translates to uplifting our LOCAL community—those who reside and work here. Our aim is to enhance the strength of the local economy by collaborating with various service providers, businesses, and production facilities to source materials, services, and supplies from local resources.

Our efforts are founded in being solution focused when overcoming obstacles to engage and build relationships. We know that when we communicate with an inclusive and flexible approach that recognizes the culture and identity of those we engage with, better conversations are had.

Environmental Protection and Leadership

At Knappett Projects, we take the responsibility for environmental stewardship during the construction process very seriously, not only because of all the strict regulations but it simply is the right thing to do.

We recognize that building responsibly means safeguarding air, water, land, and the surrounding ecosystems while delivering high-quality infrastructure throughout the project’s lifespan. We strive to minimize harm by reducing emissions, conserving energy and water, preventing pollution, and implementing rigorous waste management practices.

Our approach is proactive and comprehensive, guided by detailed Environmental Management Plans that anticipate potential risks and outline clear procedures for pollution prevention, spill response, and habitat protection.

An example of our dedication; our head office in Victoria was built to LEED Gold standards and in 2025 we upgraded several sustainable building features such as addition of dedicated electric car parking, 6 charging stations and individual fan coils units for our Heating and Cooling system. Onsite, we encourage carpooling and provide shuttle services with our own transport vans to reduce transportation emissions.
