Construction to install two ornate galvanized steel stairs to serve as fire exits was completed at the occupied Legislature Building, a 130-year-old historic landmark. The work included opening the heritage masonry façade to install specialty fire-rated arched windows and exit doors at the stairway. The extensive stone modifications, repairs, adjustments, and replacements were performed using traditional masonry techniques.
The stair structure was ornate galvanized steel, and the tolerance on this very irregular heritage architecture was very minimal, requiring careful installation fit. The renovation included extensive stone modifications, repairs, adjustments, and replacements to accommodate 36 fire-rated windows using traditional masonry techniques.
