Nanaimo Reservoir No. 1 and Energy Recovery Facility

The Nanaimo Reservoir and Energy Recovery Facility project consists of a 14 million litre reservoir that also has an energy recovery component that creates energy using the water pressure from the supply line. By using turbines to decrease the water pressure before it is put into the reservoir the City of Nanaimo is able to generate energy to supply back to BC Hydro. The reservoir itself is a concrete structure approximately 30 feet high with a diameter of approximately 150 feet. This upgrade was necessary as the City is changing the way they treat their water and the existing open air reservoir was no longer suitable to hold this new treated water.
